The Opportunity

Your mission:
We’ll look to you to oversight Office of Communication Services at the college level which includes developing collateral materials, marketing programs, and community outreach.   You will be responsible for coordinating with the System Office of Communications to ensure maximum collaboration and communication.
 
Your work:
You will enjoy working with local community media, including minority media to promote and advertise activities, offerings and successes of the college. This exciting work includes the submittal of two feature stories monthly for local production, the submittal of two releases with photos of college activities and events, and weekly submittals of announcements of events and new briefs on college-specific activities.  You will develop and maintain relationships with key media reporters, including editors, managers, newspapers, community relations personnel, technicians and staff.  Internally, we will count on your expertise to work in partnership with College President to develop college-specific marketing programs to create brand identity for the college.

SUMMARY
Work cooperatively and in alignment with the system and the System Communications office, but is responsible for the planning, design, and production of all collateral materials and social media for the college, including regular publications for internal college audiences.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
·         Responsible for the planning, direction and coordination of all aspects of the college’s marketing and communications activities, including creative direction, objectives, and marketing initiatives, in coordination and in support of System communications objectives and strategies and development of a comprehensive marketing strategy, representing the college and system in the most positive light.
·         Work cooperatively and in alignment with the system and the System Communications office, but is responsible for the planning, design, and production of all collateral materials for the college, including regular publications for internal college audiences.
·         Work with College President to develop college-specific marketing programs to create brand identity for college.
·         Responsible for the development and maintenance of relationships with key media reporters, including editors, managers, newspapers, community relations personnel, technicians and staff.
·         Work with local community media, including minority media to promote and advertise activities, offerings and successes of the college. This includes the submittal of two feature stories monthly for local production, the submittal of two releases with photos of college activities and events, and weekly submittals of announcements of events and new briefs on college-specific activities.
·         Act as college spokesperson, under the direction of the College President and within the standards of the System for media communications.
·         Work with appropriate college personnel in developing promotional materials; including obtaining required information and photography to go into the materials.
·         Ensure that all college material meet with graphic and message standards of the System.
·         Responsible for speech writing and special events as directed by the College President. This includes the management and coordination of all external college activities with submission of a monthly report to the College President.
·         Supervise the work of the Community Outreach Coordinator at the college.  Supervise composition and maintenance of a list of community leaders and groups, and media personnel.
·         Provide support to the Board by developing public relations materials on priority issues.
·         Prepare quarterly evaluations of college’s communications, marketing and public relations with recommendations to President and Associate Vice Chancellor.
·         Meet regularly with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications and Directors Communication Services from other colleges to discuss initiatives, collateral material development, and other issues related to marketing for individual colleges and the system.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
·         To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
 
EDUCATION
·         Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, public affairs, or a related field.
 
EXPERIENCE
·         Minimum of five (5) years experience in marketing, public relations, communications, public affairs, or a similar field required.
·         Experience in writing and publishing feature stories and news releases.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
·         Demonstrate the ability to develop strategic marketing and communication strategies.
·         Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex issues and communicate them effectively.
·         Possess excellent writing, speaking and editing skills.
·         Familiarity with Houston press and media outlets and personnel preferred.
·         Bilingual preferred

Typical Responsibilities:
·         Create and disseminate content and campaigns via various platforms, channels and events to improve public perception of the company’s safety and security efforts based on an editorial calendar, issues and opportunities.
·         Oversee outreach, communications and media pitching strategy to educate stakeholders on electrical safety. Coordinate resources, including external vendors to execute on tactics designed to reach to reach at-risk workers, first responders and customers. Draft message platforms and remarks for public speaking opportunities.
·         Support and identify synergies with the internal safety communications plan, playing a role in signature events and key programs.
·         Also responsible for Cybersecurity communications, including strategic plan, message and collateral development for both internal and external audiences, and providing the Cybersecurity team with effective communications consultation and guidance.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

               Five years of experience in communications planning and program execution.
               Five years of experience in story-telling and content creation across multiple platforms and channels.

The AdFellows program is your chance to start a career in marketing!  During this immersive eight-month fellowship, you will have the chance to see both marketing client and agency while touching four distinct areas of the integrated marketing team.  Throughout all of it, you will be front and center, with hands-on activities that give you the opportunity to contribute your skillset and knowledge to begin a successful career in the brand marketing industry.  These rolls will be back in New York City and New Jersey.

Some other key points:
               The rotations will be in NYC with the possibility that AdFellows will need to come to Basking Ridge, N.J. (headquarters) some days.
               Verizon will be providing a housing stipend for anyone eligible for relocation assistance. 
               The first week of the program will be an intensive one-week orientation, delving into core marketing topics and giving participants a chance to get to know each other and start forming their AdFellows network.
               Preferred fields of study—communications, marketing, PR, graphic designer, but Verizon and its partners are not limited only to those fields
