United Athletes Foundation & Racing Toward Diversity Addressing #STEM in Silicon Valley at @NFLPNE Super Bowl event Feb 6th
Racing Toward Diversity magazine, and the United Athletes Foundation are collaborating on a Player Networking Event connected to Super Bowl 50 in San Jose, Calif., on Feb. 6, 2016. Notre Dame Vice President and Associate Provost Greg Crawford will lead a panel discussion.
Fields Jackson, founder of Racing Toward Diversity, has been a speaker at Notre Dame College of “Diversity, Culture, Religion in Science,” a one-day course created by Crawford in 2012, since its inception, and former NFL player Reggie Howard, founder of United Athletes Foundation, has spoken at the annual event https://goo.gl/R7VhLy
The United Athletes Foundation (UAF), founded in 2008, has more than 150 professional athletes across professional sports working together to improve the lives of athletes and society. Its board of advisors includes two-time Super Bowl champion Ray Lewis, Julius Erving, Hank Aaron, Jim Brown, and others. Racing Toward Diversity showcases diversity efforts in business, education, and other fields, with more than 3.5 million readers for its quarterly magazine, daily online newspaper, and social media.
The Player Networking Event, established in 2000 by NFL Player and Employee Development Department and owned by Troupe21 & Associates since 2003, offers active and former NFL players exposure to corporations involved in providing players with work experiences through the NFL’s Career Transition Program. In recent years, it has focused on supporting players’ efforts to launch and promote their business interests.
On the Saturday before the Super Bowl, the Player Networking Event will have a roundtable led by Crawford at San Jose State University from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The panel of a few individuals form local companies, will address these diversity issues to high school students college students , and professionals and retired athletes, will raise awareness and help active and former athletes explore STEM, diversity, and employment opportunities through networking and various tech-related career paths. After the event, from 8 to 11 p.m., a food-and-drink mixer, celebrating 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Will Shields, will provide a more informal networking setting with sponsors and Silicon Valley STEM executives.
