Senior Director of Media & Public Relations 
 
Health Net is looking for a Senior Director of Media and Public Relations to develop and manage the execution of strategic communications by overseeing traditional and social media marketing and communications – engaging, positioning and promoting Health Net’s vision and mission amongst stakeholder audiences. The position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications. 
 
Responsibilities  
  • Promote and protect the Health Net brand, services and other important externally facing initiatives through strategic communications plans with a focus on traditional and social media. 
  • Oversee message development and execution to ensure Health Net’s mission, vision and goals are effectively communicated to key target audiences through social and traditional media channels, including employees, customers, brokers, media, government, healthcare communities and the general public. 
  • Ensure compliance with parent company’s policies and procedures for corporate communications and media relations.  
  • Partner closely and collaboratively with corporate communications and key Health Net departments to identify, understand and then externally promote/pitch important Company programs, initiatives and storylines to the media. 
  • Promote Health Net Foundation initiatives, including press releases that highlight the company’s giving opportunities and content for newsletters, web site, collateral and social media. 
  • Create and implement a proactive and reactive media relations strategic plan for the company, for its programs, potential crisis situations, and challenging healthcare industry issues. Leverage third party promotion opportunities when appropriate. 
  • Serve as point of contact for all journalists, vet reporter requests in a timely fashion in close collaboration with corporate communications 
  • Act as spokesperson and represent Health Net at public events when appropriate. 
  • Identify and engage with appropriate community and industry partners to build positive relationships on behalf of the Company. 
  • Proactively and strategically identify, evaluate and pursue executive engagement opportunities such as panels, events and speaking engagements, that drive organizational strategy, increase brand awareness and positively position and differentiate Health Net as an industry leader.  
 
Qualifications 
  • Seasoned professional with at least 10 years of senior communications and public relations experience, preferably in healthcare. 
  • Proven experience in developing and managing proactive and reactive strategic communications plans to advance an organization’s mission and goals, including key messages, talking points, FAQs and media statements. 
  • Experience in managing copywriting, graphic design, digital and print production.  
  • Strong public affairs and media relations background with a history of managing challenging public relations matters and proven track record of developing, pitching and placing stories in local print, broadcast and online media. 
  • Deep understanding and experience working in the 24/7 digital news media environment, including proven ability to develop effective relationships with national and regional journalists, bloggers and opinion leaders. 
  • Demonstrated history of crisis communications and reputation management experience, including planning, execution and management of specific crisis situations.  
  • Solid expertise in developing strategic message platforms, including positioning of a brand and healthcare issues. 
  • Experience in successfully counseling senior executives on communications issues with a proven track record of proactively raising their visibility and managing delicate situations. 
  • Experience with creating thought leadership, messaging, and social media content that elevated or established brand awareness. 
  • Strong written and verbal skills required, including experience writing executive-level communications, talking points, bylined articles, etc. 
  • Experience building relationships with external partners. 
  • Experience working and coordinating with parent company communications representatives and outside agencies to achieve strategic communications goals. 
  • Ability to travel (domestically) as required. 
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
